The Role of Computer Science Research in the Development of Business Intelligence Information Systems to Support Decision-Making

Abstract

Rapid advancements in information technology in the digital age have prompted many organizations to treat data as a strategic asset to aid in the decision-making process. One technology frequently implemented is Business Intelligence (BI), which enables the transformation and analysis of data into meaningful information. This study aims to explore the contribution of computer science research to the development of BI systems to support the decision-making process. The methodology employed consists of a qualitative approach through a literature review, involving the collection of information from academic journals, books, and other relevant academic sources. The research findings indicate that computer science research plays a crucial role in creating technologies such as Data Warehousing, Data Mining, Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), machine learning, and big data analysis, which enhance the capabilities of BI systems in processing and analyzing data. Furthermore, BI systems supported by computer science research can present information interactively and in an easily understandable manner, thereby improving the effectiveness and accuracy of decision-making. However, there are several challenges that still need to be addressed, such as data quality issues, data integration, human resource limitations, and data security concerns.   Therefore, ongoing research and development in computer science is necessary to optimize BI systems in supporting decision-making within organizations.
