Network Monitoring Using Wireshark

In an increasingly connected digital age, computer networks have become an essential component for data exchange and communication. However, network performance is often disrupted by issues such as poorly organized collision domains and broadcast domains. To overcome this, efficient network design is required, utilizing devices such as switches and routers. One approach commonly used in small to medium-sized networks is static routing, which allows manual configuration of communication paths for greater control. In the context of network performance monitoring and analysis, Wireshark serves as the primary tool capable of capturing and displaying data packets in detail. Through Wireshark, administrators can analyze important parameters such as throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss to assess quality of service (QoS). In addition, Wireshark also assists in the troubleshooting process by tracing communication paths and detecting configuration errors or connection disruptions. From a security perspective, this tool serves to identify traffic anomalies, suspicious activity, and potential unencrypted data interception. Based on literature studies, Wireshark is not only used as a performance analysis tool, but also as a means of verifying network design, such as ensuring that static routing configurations and connections to DNS servers are running as designed. Thus, the use of Wireshark has proven to be very effective in supporting reliable, efficient, and secure computer network management.
