Abstract

The development of information technology requires schools to have a reliable computer network to support learning and administrative activities. Local Area Networks (LANs) play an important role in connecting devices between school units. This study aims to explain the theory of LAN implementation and optimization using star topology in a school environment. The method used is a literature study reviewing LAN concepts, star topology characteristics, and network performance improvement strategies. Based on the results of the study, star topology has advantages in terms of ease of management, error detection, and flexibility in adding devices. However, its main weakness is its dependence on a central device (switch). Network optimization can be done by selecting quality devices, setting bandwidth, and proper IP address management. Theoretically, the application of star topology can improve the efficiency, stability, and reliability of networks in school environments. Network implementation is an important stage in the field of Information Technology, which is related to the application of concepts, designs, and computer network technologies into real systems. STAR topology is centrally controlled, where all links must pass through central data transmission to all selected nodes and clients. The central node is called the server, and the other nodes are called client servers. After the network connection is initiated by the server, each client server can use the network connection whenever The central node is called the server, and the other nodes are called client servers. Once the network connection is initiated by the server, each client server can use the network connection at any time without waiting for a command from the server.
