Abstract

Computer network learning requires a balance between theoretical understanding and practical skills. However, hardware limitations and laboratory costs are often obstacles to conducting practical work. Simulation technologies such as Cisco Packet Tracer offer an effective solution to overcome these limitations by providing a realistic and safe virtual learning environment. This study aims to design and test the effectiveness of computer network simulation-based learning media using Cisco Packet Tracer in improving the understanding and learning motivation of computer science students. This study uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests, observations, and questionnaires from 30 students who participated in computer network practicums. The analysis was conducted descriptively and quantitatively using a comparison of average scores and gain scores. The results of the study showed an increase in the average score from 60.3 to 86.8 with a gain score of 0.68 (high category), which indicates a significant increase in understanding of network concepts. Student response to simulation media was very positive, with a satisfaction score of 4.56 out of 5, especially in terms of ease of use and learning motivation. Cisco Packet Tracer proved to be effective as an alternative learning medium that can improve student learning outcomes and motivation. Further development is recommended to integrate project-based simulations and automatic evaluation features to expand its application in the context of education and professional training.
